“Religion of Tamizhar”: An International Conference is a  camouflage or subversion of Hindus?

Less publicized or silent “International conference” in Chennai: Almost the same Christian figures were there on the dais on July 3^rd, 2008 when the multi-crore ‘mega movie on mythical Thomas” was inaugurated. At that time, there was a lot of publicity, tom-toms and drum-beating with the print and electronic media coverage. Even Super stars were dragged in to add luster. But, now the same Christian figures were on the dais, but sitting along with Saiva-Vaishnava-Buddhist-Islamic believing heads! Thus the so-called “International Conference on the Religion of the Tamils” was inaugurated at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre, 25, Rosary Church Road, Santhome, Chennai – 600 004 on Thursday evening (August 14^th, 2008). Though, as per the printed invitation, the function had to start from 5.00 pm, it started by 6 pm.

However, there had been deviations:

Lawrence Pius (6.10 to 6.15 pm): (He started explaining the theme of the Conference). “People may ask – Is there any “Tamil Religion?”[1]. The conference organized was not to emphasize the separate identity of the Tamils[2] through religion, but organized only for religious harmony based on the principles of Vatican Council – II, that recognizes the divinity in every faith[3]. Accordingly, Christianity wants to have dialogue[4] with non-Christian faiths. Earlier, at a particular period, Christianity might not have respected[5] the other religions, but now it wants dialogue. Now the conference is going to show as to how the “Tamil Religion” reflects other religions.”

He then requested the archbishop and others to light the traditional “Kuthu-vilakku”, a brass-lamp of four feet with holding five-tongued wick-carrier and oil. Only Christian religious leaders were invited to light the five wicks – one by one. Why the other religious heads were not invited? It was glaringly visible as could be noted from the expression of the audience. It was also an intriguing factor to note that why the Christian religious heads wearing sporting “Chandanm” (Sandal paste)[6] on their foreheads!

AM Chinnappa gave the inaugural speech (6.15 to 6.28): (Though he meticulously called the names of Christian leaders sitting on the dais, but addressed others as “the dignitaries sitting on the dais”. He explained why they decided to conduct the conference. He revealed that they themselves were having different views about it – discussions, misconceptions, arguments. In fact, they had “quarrel” also[7]). He explained: “But ultimately, they decided to proceed with, as there are certain common elements in all religions – say the concept of – god, soul, body, life after death, forgiveness etc., which could  believers come together. There are modern electronic gadgets which now bring people together – say cell phone. Internet brings people together.

“Then why religions of God[8] cannot come together? Why all “One God believers” could not come together? Why “One God, one people” cannot be achieved? In Vedas, we find such verses that, “The truth is one, but sages say it differently” reciting the sloka[9] – Ekam sat bahudha vadanthi! He cited the other famous sloka also – “Akasham pathitham thoyam, yata gatchathi sagaram. Sarvadeva namaskaram, Kesavam prathi gatchathi” = Rain waters pour from the skies, flows into different forms – rivers and so on, but ultimately join together and flow into ocean and become one entity.

“We Catholics[10] have a mandate[11] in this regard. God has given mandate to the Catholics. Articles 2 and 5 of the Vatican Council – II specifically mention that Church recognizes “divine light” in every religion. Why these “divine lights” could not come together?[12] Similarly, wherever there is truth, Catholics are ready to recognize it.  There should not be any discrimination within the religion, people, language etc.”

Release of Souvenir (6.28 to 6.30): A souvenir was released and the first copy was received by Mohammed Abdul Ali.

M. D. Thomas (6.31 to 6.47): (He spoke in English). His speech was mentioned as key-note address: “I find that the concept of Vatican Council – II is realized here[13]. The Government of India recognized “Tamil” as the ancient language[14]. As the Council recognizes truth in other religions, as government recognizes Tamil, we conduct conference on the theme. Thus, the conference is seen as the fulfillment in the Jesus Christ! Here, I wish to place some ideas of the Pope when he came to India in 1986 in the context[15]. We expect the Inter-religious dialogue would achieve. The Christians are exalted for the promotion of spirituality of other religions[16].

Tamil is the oldest language[17] and Tamil culture is the mother culture[18] of all civilizations. The scholars are going to prove it in the conference. Tamil civilization originated from the Indus Valley and spread to other parts of the world[19]. The conclusion of the conference may reach out the world. With this message, I inaugurate the conference.”

Mohammed Addul Ali (6.47 to 7.05): “Salam Alaikkum. Wasalam ……………..Mohammed…………..”, which is Islamic salutation to others. Islam says that when you meet people, you should say like this. AM Chinnappa personally visited[20] my house to invite me and I accepted his invitation. Tomorrow, I am going to Mecca and Media. I will pray at Ka’ba and I shall pray for all of you. There is no doubt that there is only one God. Hindus too know that there is only one God and it is called “Brahma”[21]. Only later, many gods were introduced[22]. We are all children of Adam and Eve. We need not worship as there are billion and billion of Angels to worship God.

“Now Islam is branded as religion of terrorism[23] and this is only western propaganda. Islam is not the religion of terrorism. There are miscreants in every religion[24], but we do not hold the whole religion responsible for their acts. Islam means submission to God and, we Muslims submit to God. Just because of few Christians do mischief, we do not say Christianity is the religion of terrorism. Similarly, if some Hindus do misdeeds, we do not call Hinduism as religion of terrorism. Why then Islam is branded as the religion of terrorism? Why the terrorist acts of some Muslims is taken to be that of the whole religion – Islam? If al-Jihad, al-Quida, al-Umma and others are carrying out terrorism, they are the terrorists and not all Muslims[25]. There is conflict and misunderstanding in the world ans myths floated about Islam. The west misleads people with vested interest. Terrorism affects every nation and it has to be condemned.

“Tamil language has been there for more than 5000 years. I am not a Tamilan. I am a pure Arabian[26] and our family came from Arabia 430 years ago to Delhi, UP and from there to Chennai. We live among the Tamils. There is no love in the western countries. If you are sick, you are sent to hospital, that is all. None is there to take care of. Values are here. My family was ruling the entire south – at that time known as “Karnatak” including Sri Lanka[27]. My grand-father was Mohammed Ali Walajah. My forefathers gave lands to temples[28], churches and mosques also. Though, there is no proof[29], I tell this. Even Sankaracharya came to my house one day acknowledged the fact. Many leaders came to Amir Mahal – Church of Canterbury came –

“Today the world is corrupt – but we should not forget the Almighty. Particularly, to the atheists[30], I tell – definitely, there is God. God’s anger is exhibited in the form of Tsunami, earth-quakes etc. God is within[31], we are not alone.

“We should be sincere, honest and there should not be any hypocrisy[32]. Quran says that hypocrites would go to hell of fire. Insa Allah, if God willing, we shall meet again. Khuda Afish. (He left immediately).”

Varadha ethiraja Jeeyar[33] (7.06 to 7.17): (Talked in Tamil with punched sentences making audience laugh). He started with invocation from “Nalayira Divya Prapandam”. Explained the harmony between Hindus and Muslims pointing out Bibi Nachiyar marriage is carried on every year in Sri Rangam. Only Tamilnadu Government has the symbol of “Andal Temple”. Only nine years are left for 1000 years since the advent of Sri Ramanujachariyar, who was a great Social reformer. Max Mueller himself pointed out, Though Adi Sankara was great, it was Ramanuja who worked for social reform. Swami Vivekananda points out that Ramanuja taught religion from Paraiah to Brahmin.

“Political parties play havoc in religious matters. I call DMK as Tirumal Munnetra Kazhagam. MDMK also like that only. We cannot keep them in isolation. There is no unity among the Jeers also.

“We have communal harmony without any problem. In Pondicherry, I stayed at the residence of Joseph[34] and I conferred the title “Vaishnva Peroli” to him. When K. J. Jesudas released a cassette, he did with a picture of mine on it.

(His Tamil explanation to the word “Salam” is interesting).

“I met one couple in Australia – father ……and mother Muslim, whose son’s name is “Vailundanathan”.

M. Deivanayagam (7.18-7.37): (Talked in Tamil). I was a Hindu till 1953, and then became a Christian, but in1968, I gave letter considering me as “free-thinker”[35]. Historically, if all religions are united, it is called “Tamil religion”. The conference is conducted with divine grace. I am thrilled to know that the theme of the conference came out through the key-note address of CBCI chairman[36].

People may ask why there should be conference on “Tamil religion”, then, what about “Telugu religion”, “Hindi religion” etc? But the fact is that Tamil is the oldest language and the first parents were Tamil. Bible says that the first language is Tamil[37]. “Tamil Spirituality” is hidden or suppressed. That is why the Tamil Spirituality is discussed as Soulology. The concept of “Letters of Life” (Uyir Ezhuttu) and “Letters of Body” (Mei ezhuttu) are available only in Tamil. Even among genders, there is specific categorization of “Akrinai” i.e, a gender that is neither male nor female. Against among the “meaning” (Porul), there is differentiation – as inside (Agam) and outside (Puram). Though some concepts are discussed together – religion, worship, spirituality – they are different.

“Sivagnanabhodham” is the work that deals with issues in question.

Only in Tamil “Kappiyam” (Epic type work) is there for all religions. In other words, other religious people have also composed their epics in Tamil.

From 1963 to 65, nearly 3000 bishops sat in the Vatican Council – II proceedings and brought out the principles. From 1969 to 1996, till his death Arulappa[38] helped and guided me a lot and I should remember him for all the help he rendered[39]. I am grateful to him by all means. Since 1982, Lawrence Pius[40] of CBCI has been helping me and I am grateful to him also.

I am not a Catholic, but born Hindu. I was baptized in 1953, but I gave a letter surrendering my membership (to the Church) and act as “free-thinker”. There should be rule of people all over the world and Universal Court. The Pope should declare such a state[41]. I hope that would be achieved soon on the earth.

Felix Wilfred (7.38 to 7.54): (He read his paper in English). Tamil religion exhibits secular character. Tirumular[42] and Sivavakkiyar[43] concepts have been unique in this regard. The cosmopolitan outlook of Sangam literature has been derived only from Tirumular, as revealed in the Kaniyan Pungundran’s poem “Yadhum Ore, yavarum kelir” = All places are my native place and all are my relative. The identity consciousness has been the inflammable one and that too the religious iudentity highly inflammable. Each religion has to be viewed as a part of rainbow. Belonging to a particular religion is individual identity. Thus, an individual may have multiple-identity. Asokan inscriptions in different languages show his eclectic nature. Disparagement of other religion without reason cannot be accepted. As every religion has reverential aspect, disparagement is not acceptable. If you do not respect other religion, you are not respecting your own religion[44]. Being believer of one religion is different from belonging to humanity. Jesus says “I am truth” and not tradition. Scientific study of Tamil religion is required. Ideological orientation should not be there, as it would affect research[45]. There should not be any suspicion.

Muthukumaraswamy Thambiran (7.54 to 8.12): (He was the only person who talked sitting). First recited several verses from Tevaram, Tiruvacakam etc., and then compared certain practices of Tamils and Jews. Abraham’s native place is mentioned as “Ur” and there is no other language other than Tamil gives the meaning “the (native) place” / “the place (of belonging)” and therefore Abraham was a Tamil / Dravidian[46]. Take the practice of Muslims going to Haj wearing unstitched white cloths worshipping Ka’ba, and it is a Tamil practice. Only there, Muslim women are taken by men and they can worship. We know that “bible” is a European book, but it is actually mentioned as an “oriental book”. In fact, Buddha[47], Mahavira and other religious heads were also “Tamil-not-knowing Dravidians” only. The belief in previous birth and karma are known to Jesus, as he asks his disciples pointing a blind as to whether his blindness had been due to his sins committed this in this life or earlier birth. The westerners or Christians may not be knowing the meaning of Jesus’ words, “Take the bed and go away”, but Tamils know. As Jesus knew the Tamil practice, he said so. Only Tamils could take their bed and walk away, as they used to use mat made of reeds for sleeping and it could be folded and taken away after sleep. As Tamils follow different types of “seclusions (Tittugal), Jews also follow: the usage of Vibuthi; ear-boring practice; etc. It is believed that Tirumular lived for 3000 years to compose his work – each song for a year. This need not be thought as impossible. If thousands of names and numbers could be stored in hand, none would have believed say 10 years back, but now in a every hand, cell phone is there, as a proof. Therefore, people have to believe (that Tirumular lived for 3000 years). Adam and Eve are nothing but Adhan and Avvai. Similarly, “Pitha-Sudhan-Parisuddha Avi” (Father, Son and Spirit) are nothing but “Shiva-Parvatrhi-Murugan”. Thus, there have been many similarities between Jews and Tamils, and Tamils and Christians.

Eucharist (8.13 to 8.17): Now because of religion, there has been problem from Kashmir to Kanyakumari – we know what is happening in Kashmir due to Amarnath issue and sethu-samuthram in the south. Here, in the context, certain questions are to be answered. Why the church should be interested in “Tamizhar religion”? The answer being the Vatrican Council – II. Then, why the Madras-Mylapore diocese should conduct the conference in Chennai? The answer being St. Thomas[48]. He came here. That is why the choice of Chennai. Tiruvalluvar also lived here[49].

Xavier (8.17 to 8.19): We planned and worked for 18 moths for this conference. Religions should not be used for dividing people and therefore, we are trying to unite. As Justin of first century told, “Wherever truth is there, Christ is there is there light”, we work for the light[50].

Mourya Methpaul (8.19 to 8.22): He read out the “Panchasilam” – the five fundamental principles of Buddhism. Pointing to Deivanayagam, he recalled that they fought from Kanchipuram. Finally, he asked, when everybody has a religion, why not Tamils?

Jebachandran, Tuthukkudi (8.22 to 8.26): None could prevent growth and development nowadays. Therefore, the development of “spirituality’ cannot be stopped. The social evils in Indian society have to be eradicated. The divisions in our society save been curse on us. With spirituality, we have to work together.

D. Devakala (8.26 to 8.34): She thanked all mentioning their names. AM Chinnappa was commenting in between and particularly asking the Stella Maris students to concentrate on the proceedings and act accordingly. She was pointing out how they had difficulties in organizing the conference. She also pointed out that Fr Paulraj Lordusamy had to bear with such difficulties[51]. However, now the conference is conducted successfully.

“All religions coming together” and “religions keeping their identities separately”: It is sheer hypocrisy on the part of the Catholics, who dominate the entire show and maintain their exclusivist theology and ideology, but still pose as discussing about “Tamizhar Samayam”, the “Religion of Tamils”. Though “Nadasvaram” was played outside, the Catholics inside talked in English in the Conference meant for the discussion on “Tamizhar Samayam”. Though, they talk about all religions coming together based on some common elements, their forceful exhibition of “Catholicism” during the proceedings has been glaring and no mutuality of respecting the other faith is noted. Thus, as usual, the so-called “dialogue” would be “monologue” and that too “monotonous monologue” to be publicized as “dialogue”.

Just some days back, Swami Dayananda Saraswati talked about the claim of “All religions are one” in a well attended meeting. He mainly pointed out as to how other religions differ when the question of Ahimsa – non-violence comes into practice. He specifically pointed out that some religions could not follow Ahimsa, because of the ingrained and in-built theological mandatory provisions[52]. Now, it appears that this conference might be an antidote to it, of course, under the “Tamil banner” with a lot of “Dravidian sentiments” outpouring rhetoric.

It is also evident that they have actually “stage-managed” by bringing few selected non-christians, as if they have all “chosen ones”, who are very comfortable with them. For Mohammed Abdul Ali, A. M. chinnappa had to go in person and invite. So we do not know who were the others invited but not attended, as representative heads of Jains and others were conspicuously absent.

Lights are different, but outcome brightness is one; river waters are different, but oceanic water is one; colours are different, but in rainbow, they are united; like this the Catholic speakers gave examples. But, why they want to maintain their identity in tact and that too dominant forcing on others?  Ironically, even in the lighting of “Five whisker traditional lamp”, all the Five were grabbed by the Catholics only and thus totally ignoring, neglecting and disrespecting evidently – non-Catholics – particularly, the Saivite – Muthukumaraswamy, Vaishnavite –  Jeer, Buddhist – Mourya.

The “atheist dilemma” affecting them is evident as Mohammed Abdul ali himself openly come out. The “Tamil atheism”, “Dravidian paguttaravi” etc., have been against God, religion, scriptures, Theology, Rituals and everything connected with religion based ob “belief system”. Thus the “Tamizhar Atheism” haunts and daunts them, while they discuss about “Tamizhar Samayam”. The Tamil belief system of God-believing and God-denying have been contradicting and irreconcilable. However, the Catholics have been playing with “Tamil atheists” and “Tamil theists”. Just one month back, just at a distance of 200 feet away from the place of conference, they brought the atheist CM – Karunanidhi to inaugurate the ‘mythical Thomas movie” and now they want to have dialogue with “Tamil theists / believers”. How this blatant contradiction is possible? How they could hobnob with such congruencies, inconsistencies and irregularities in their actions.

Let us see how the conference is proceeding.

[1] Definitely, even in the 21^st century, the linguistic basis of religious interpretation or exclusivist approach of a particular language speaking people is redundant, obsolete and amounting racist-type gimmick. Any way, the Church has decided to carry out such tamasha.

 

[2] It has to be noted that they claim that they want to bring all religions come together based on some coomon elements found!

[3] The bogey of “Vatican Council – II” has been there followed by the Christians since 1963 by different Jesuits masquerading as “Hindu Sanyasis” In short, it is nothing but Christians pretending as “Hindus” in all aspects, but ultimately declare the “hidden Christ” in their “scriptures” or announce that “Hindus” had been worshipping “Christ” only without knowing!

[4] The “dialogue” has again been a camouflage, as they never inform “Hindus” about their agenda. Ironically, the so-called Hindus not only do not know about the “Vatican Council – II”, but also their participation in it.

[5] Even today, Christianity does not respect other religions, but only pretends to respect. Their way of disparagement, denigration and blasphemy of other religions, particularly, Hindus in Indian context has to be brought out for the present generation, as they know nothing.

[6] Of course, they can claim that it has  been part of their “dialogue” in accordance with the “Vatican Council – II”

[7] The “quarrel” must have been obviously to bring the “pagan faiths” along with them and making them to sit with them!

[8] In spite of their talking such utopian ideology, they do  not think about as to why they name their respective Gods

[9] Nowadays, non-Hindus have memorized few Sanskrit slokas like this, they choose to recite just to attract Hindus. However, the Hindu counterparts do not learn and practice such tactics.

[10] It is interesting that they want to identify themselves openly as “Catholics” and incidentally, it is not known as to why non-Catholic Christian denomination come to participate in the conference.

[11] This clearly proves their religious arrogance rather than their attempt of coming for “dialogue” on mutual respect basis.

[12] Note the irony – they did not allow non-Christians to light the light on the dais, but they talk about the “divine lights” coming together!

[13] The much emphasis of the “Vatican Council – II” has to be noted carefully. However, the “Hindus” are not bothered about the significance.

[14] It is anachronistic and paradoxical that Government of India should recognize in 2008 that the “Tamil language as the ancient language”. In fact, it is only politicization of compelling Government to declare so, as if the fact is known. Political efforts have been on already to give such status to other languages like Telugu etc.

[15] For easy harvest of souls, he emphasized the inter-religious dialogue and inculturation programs to be followed.

[16] Note the arrogance again, what prerogative Christianity has, as if others do not have such mandate or privilege?

[17] Note the rhetoric, when it has to be avoided in such “spiritual” conferences, in fact, it is unwarranted.

[18] Then, which is the “father culture” of the world?

[19] It has already been pointed out that Pakistan with determination declares that IVC is their civilization ands therefore none can have claim over it. The pro-Pakistani sites have refuted that IVC was “Dravidian” and condemned severely such claims. See www.pakistan.com, www.allempires.com, etc.

[20] The undue importance given to him could be noticed by any on-looker or a delegate of the conference. He came late accompanied by the Catholic priests. The first copy of the released souvenir was given to him. He was allowed to talk immediately.

[21] It is unfortunate that that non-Hindus go on misinterpret like this – they do not know the difference among the words and expressions – Brahm, Brahmam, Brahman, etc., but talk as if they know every thing.

[22] This totally wrong, no introduced many gods. That the representation of God in different sizes and shapes just like considering glow found in different lamps, or waters flowing into ocean, colours of rainbow.

[23] His sudden reference to this aspect raised ey-brows of many of the participants of the conference. Particularly, the arrests in Tamilnadu proved that the Islamic terrorists have well-knit network and also planned to bomb on the eve of Independence day, targeting Chennai.

[24] They are not planting bombs and killing innocent people; they are not using any suicide bombers in such heinous attacks; they do not cry in the name of Allah or smile before the cameras and videos, when they are brought to court, jail etc.

[25] As they also do everything in the name of Allah, citing from Quran etc., they have to explain as to why those Muslims have been terrorists and other Muslims are not. If other Muslims could be non-terrorists, they could see that they are also not terrorists in the name of Allah, Quran etc.

[26] This is intriguing because, nowadays none makes such claims “purity of clan” etc., as it only amounts to racism.

[27] Note how tall, that too, unhistorical claim, he is making in front of others.

[28] Note the unblushing contradiction and lie. Just he said that he is a pure Arabian coming from Arabia, but now claims that the entire south belonged to them! How the foreigners could claim ownership on our lands?

[29] Good that at least, he accepts such fact. Also note, what is happening in Kashmir, where land just given to temple has been taken back! Why he could not go to Kashmir and do something, instead of rushing to Mecca and Medina?

[30] Do they really afraid of atheists? Why then they have been hobnobbing with Karunanidhi and DK? How is that Tamil atheists and Mohammedans have been getting along with each other always? What is the mystery hidden in their relationship? Is it also Allah’s covenant had with atheists to eliminate “kafirs” from the earth?

[31] Islam does not accept such equating man with God or Good residing within man and so on. Anyway, he is making such rhetoric to please their hosts.

[32] Recently, he was responsible for the dismantling and removal of paintings displayed at Lalit Kala Academy in the most barbaric and atrocious manner compelling police to act such action. Not only that  two women who were there at the venue were arrested after sunset against the legal provisions. Of course, predictably, no human-right, woman-right and other activists cared for this.

[33] It is said that he has been a self-appointed Jeer. He is a retired IAF officer, involved in the land transfer to Rajiv Gandhi Memorial, though first, he filed a petition in the Madras High Court questioning the temple land transfer to such memorial. Later, he silently accepted for the transfer.

[34] Joseph, though a Christian claims to a ardent devotee of Viushnu and claims himself as a “Vaishnavite”. He has published articles in Vaishnavism.

[35] Any way, he is still Christian only.

[36] See how holy spirit descends and work with them. Though, he is not a “Catholic”, the spirit still haunts him to do so.

[37] Really, the biblical scholars should go bad about his great discovery and the theologians should split their hairs to find out the truth!

[38] But still, the delegates of the Conference appeared to have not knowing the facts and hobnobbing with him.

[39] The Arulappa-Deivanayagam nexus in manufacturing evidences to link “doubting Thomas” and “Tiruvalluvar” has been well-known and it need not be repeated here.
